I’m so happy with the way it turned out, and happier that it now belongs to my husband. My son took the photo I used for this work while he was camping with Dion a few weeks ago. As we paddled the voyageur canoe, we enjoyed the experience of riding the smooth waves while being bathed in sunlight. Oh how I miss summer! While I dream of longer, warmer days ahead, I can’t help but remember the feeling of those waves. It’s incredible to be connected to the water; its strength and beauty have a way of speaking to something deep inside us. I was walking along the beach of Lake Superior and the weather was beautiful. There was hardly any wind – just enough to help the water reach through the rocks on the shoreline. The sun was shining, casting the perfect light on the rocks allowing me to see the colours at their fullest. The rocky shoreline seemed like the perfect metaphor for so many of our experiences in our lives. The troubles we face are sometimes so difficult, but there is beauty found there too. Think about the people who are there for us when things get tough, who bake cookies and bring them by with a smile, who aren't afraid to laugh or cry with you, who keep you company when you're feeling alone. These are the beautiful moments that mean so much to me when life isn't so easy. The shifting colours and shapes were hypnotic, pulling me into the rhythm of nature. Our connection to water connects us to each other, making our communities that much stronger. I love living here.
